DIVERSE LANDSCAPES OF UKRAINE: CELEBRATING TWENTY
YEARS OF UKRAINIAN INDEPENDENCE

SEPTEMBER 30-OCTOBER 1, 2011

A two-day symposium entitled Diverse Landscapes of Ukraine: Celebrating
Twenty Years of Ukrainian Independence will take place on the campus of The
Pennsylvania State University at University Park, Pennsylvania on Friday and
Saturday, September 30 and October 1, 2011.

The symposium will be jointly sponsored by The Pennsylvania State University
College of the Liberal Arts and College of Agricultural Sciences, with
support from the Woskob New Century Fund and the Woskob Endowment in
Ukrainian Studies. The first day of the symposium will feature discussions
on natural resources, agriculture, and the environmental impact of the
Chornobyl disaster (2011 marks the 25th anniversary of the Chornobyl
accident). The second day will be dedicated to literature, language,
culture, and the arts in 21st century Ukraine, focusing on the ways they
shape and reflect the cultural and physical landscape of the country as well
as Ukrainian identity. The symposium includes a number of invited speakers
for keynote addresses and panel presentations, as well as discussants for
roundtable discussions. All scholarly events at the symposium are free and
open to the general public.
