UKRAINE DISASTER ASSISTANCE FUND
The Ukraine Disaster Assistance Fund has been created by a coalition of organizations, the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation (www.usukraine.org), Ukrainian Federation of America (www.ukrainianfederationofamerica.org), Ukrainian American Coordinating Council (UACC), and U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (www.usubc.org), to raise money and in-kind support from individuals, institutions, organizations and businesses for the people, homes and villages in Western Ukraine hit in late July by one of the worst floods in a century.
The coalition will be responsible for the overall management of the fund and will publicly report on the disbursement of funds. The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation with its regional offices in Ukraine will help to coordinate the assistance.

40 people including six children have been killed by flooding conditions that hit the Vinnytsia, Trans-Carpathian, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, and Chernivtsi regions. Hundreds of towns and villages, including more than 40,000 houses, have been affected and thousands of people evacuated. The Ivano-Frankivsk region has suffered the most.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Emergency, more than 422 miles (679 km) of highways and roads and more than 900 bridges have been destroyed in the storms, leaving more than 300 towns and villages without electricity, downing communication lines, and blocking food access routes throughout five regions of Western Ukraine.
Ukraine’s President, Viktor Yushchenko, has called on international governments, organizations and businesses for major assistance. U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, William Taylor, has encouraged U.S. businesses and individuals to provide funds and in-kind donations for emergency and longer-term rebuilding assistance.
