The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation hosted the 2005 Youth Leadership Program (YLP)
from July 24 to July 31 2005 in Kyiv. The focus and program activities
for the 2005 program in Kyiv were adapted from those of the Washington,
D.C. Youth Leadership Program. The past three Youth Leadership Programs
were held in Washington, D.C. This week-long program has been designed
to introduce college students, ages 18-24, to essential elements of leadership,
civic engagement and political process during meetings, discussions, and
tours of Kyiv's key institutions.

Through interaction with Ukraine's leaders in different
spheres of government and non-government affairs the participants:
- Continue and increase their interest in leadership within and beyond
their communities
- Gain an understanding of the political process
- Gain an understanding of current U.S.-Ukraine relations
- Gain an understanding of the public policy process
- Learn about key organizations in Kyiv
-Understand their function and role
-Impact on Ukraine and U.S.-Ukraine relations - Gain practical leadership skills through training
- Learn about youth engagement in democratic and transparent governance
in Ukraine
- Understand the need for political activism and possible leadership
roles
- Gain a greater appreciation of the culture, institutions and history
of Ukraine
- Partcipate in a one day service project at a local organization
